Getting started

  1. Open the app. It sets up an anonymous account for you, so there's nothing to sign up for. Onboarding asks a few quick questions and lets you try one free humanize run on an example.
  2. Paste or type your draft, or tap Import to bring in a file, a photo, a camera scan or a link.
  3. Check the AI-likeness estimate and the colored sentences. Checks don't cost any words.
  4. Pick a tone, a text type and a strength. On Pro you can also add a sample of your own writing for voice matching.
  5. Tap Humanize. The button shows how many words the run uses and how many you have left.
  6. Review the word diff, the "What we fixed" list and any fact-check warnings. Then copy, share or export the result. It's saved as a document automatically.

Words and limits

A humanize run costs the number of words in the text you send. A word is any run of characters between spaces that contains at least one letter or digit. The length of the rewrite doesn't count, and if a run fails, the words go back to you.

Free words reset every day at midnight UTC. Pro words reset every Monday at 00:00 UTC. The app shows how many words you have left and when they reset. Unused words don't carry over.

Long texts

A text can have up to 30,000 characters. If it has more words than one run allows, the app tells you before you start. On Free you can shorten the text or upgrade. On Pro the app can split it into parts and humanize them one after another; each part is its own run and uses its own words.

The AI-likeness estimate

The estimate is a score from 0 to 100 for the whole text, with a color for each sentence: green sounds human, amber is mixed, and red reads like typical AI writing. It combines a check for known AI writing patterns with a rating from an AI model. It's an estimate, and it can't prove who wrote a text.

  • While you edit, the app highlights known patterns right away. These quick highlights are worked out on your iPhone and are always free.
  • A full check sends the text to our server. It costs no words but counts toward your daily checks.
  • On Pro, tap a highlighted sentence and choose Rewrite this sentence to change only that one. It uses that sentence's words.

Why didn't the estimate drop to zero?

Some patterns are fine in context, such as a quotation, a list that really has three items or a technical term. The rewrite leaves those alone, so a low score is normal. Zero isn't the goal.

Importing text

Paste and text files

Paste from any app, or open a plain text file (.txt) from Files. Both are free.

Photos and camera scans

Text recognition runs on your iPhone, and both are free. For the best result, photograph the page flat, in good light and with the whole text in frame.

PDF and Word files (Pro)

The app opens PDF and Word (.docx) files. Scanned PDF pages without a text layer go through text recognition on your iPhone. If the app can't read a file on the device, it uploads it so our server can extract the text, and the file is deleted right after (an upload that is never processed is deleted automatically within two hours). Uploads can be up to 10 MB. Older Word files (.doc) need to be saved as .docx first.

Google Docs

Importing from a link is free. The app can only read a Google Doc that's shared by link:

  1. In Google Docs, open the document and click Share.
  2. Under General access, choose "Anyone with the link" and keep the role as Viewer.
  3. Copy the link and paste it into Import from link in the app.

You can turn sharing off again once the text is in the app.

Web pages

The app downloads the page and keeps its readable text. Pages behind a login or paywall, or sites that block automated downloads, can't be imported. Copy the text and paste it instead.

Documents and sign-in

Every humanize saves your text as a document, with its last 10 versions. Open the Documents list to search, reopen or delete them. Swipe a document to delete it; it's removed from your account right away.

Keep your documents on a new iPhone

Without sign-in, your documents belong to an anonymous account on this iPhone. To keep them when you reinstall the app or switch phones, open Settings and sign in with Apple or Google. Then sign in the same way on the new iPhone.

Signing in to an account you already have

If you sign in with an Apple or Google account that's already linked to HumanGPT, the documents from this iPhone are moved into that account and the temporary anonymous account is deleted. If either account had already used the free demo run, it counts as used.

Pro on a new iPhone

Your subscription belongs to the Apple ID that bought it. On a new iPhone, tap Restore on the subscription screen or in Settings.

Error messages

The wording in the app may differ slightly. Here's what each kind of message means and what to do.

You've used today's free words
Free accounts get 300 words a day, and they come back at midnight UTC. Pro accounts get 50,000 words a week, renewed every Monday at 00:00 UTC. The app shows when your words reset. You can also upgrade to Pro.
This text is too long for one run
Free runs take up to 300 words and Pro runs up to 3,000. Shorten the text, or on Pro let the app split it into parts.
The text is too short or too long
A text needs at least 3 words and can have up to 30,000 characters. A voice sample can have up to 2,000 characters.
Too many runs, wait a moment
You can start up to 10 runs a minute. Wait a minute and try again.
Daily limit reached
Free accounts can make 20 humanize runs and 10 AI-likeness checks a day. Pro accounts can make 300 runs and 100 checks. The counts reset at midnight UTC.
Another run is still in progress
Each account processes one run at a time. Wait for the first one to finish. If the app was closed in the middle of a run, the lock clears by itself within 5 minutes.
This is a Pro feature
Voice matching, rewriting a single sentence and importing PDF or Word files are part of Pro. Remove the voice sample or paste the text instead, or upgrade.
The free demo run has been used
Each account gets one demo run. After that, humanizing uses your daily free words.
This Google Doc isn't shared
Set General access to "Anyone with the link" as described under Importing text, then try again.
Couldn't open that link
The page didn't load, needs a login, or the address isn't a regular web link. Check the address, or copy the text and paste it.
No readable text found
The file or page doesn't contain text the app can extract, for example an image-only document or an unsupported format. Try a photo or scan of the page, or paste the text.
Too many imports, wait a moment
You can import from up to 10 links a minute. Wait a minute and try again.
The rewrite didn't finish
Something went wrong while the AI was writing. Your words are already back. Try again in a moment.
HumanGPT is busy or under maintenance
We're doing maintenance, or the service has reached its capacity for the day. Your words aren't touched. Try again later.
App verification failed
Our server couldn't confirm the request came from the App Store version of the app. Update the app from the App Store and try again.
Couldn't sign in or merge accounts
Close and reopen the app, check your connection and try again. If it keeps happening, email us and tell us which sign-in you used.
Something else went wrong
If you see an error about an invalid option, file or request, update the app to the latest version. If that doesn't help, email us with a screenshot.

Subscriptions and billing

Pro is billed through the App Store, weekly at $5.99 with a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, or yearly at $39.99 (US prices; the app shows your local price). The full rules, including auto-renewal, are in the terms of use.

Free trial

If you don't want to continue after the 3 free days, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Otherwise it becomes a paid weekly subscription.

Restore purchases

After reinstalling the app or moving to a new iPhone, open Settings in the app and tap Restore. You can also do it from the subscription screen. Use the same Apple ID you subscribed with.

Pro didn't switch on after buying

Check your internet connection, tap Restore, then close and reopen the app. If Pro still doesn't show after a few minutes, email us with the purchase date and the order ID from Apple's receipt email. Never send card details.

Cancel

On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose HumanGPT and tap Cancel Subscription. You can also get there from Manage subscription in the app's Settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before a renewal or before your free trial ends to avoid the next charge. Apple's guide: Cancel a subscription from Apple.

Refunds

Apple handles all App Store payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple's guide: Request a refund.

Delete your account

Deleting your account doesn't cancel a Pro subscription. If you subscribe, cancel it first so you aren't charged again.

  1. Open HumanGPT and go to Settings.
  2. Tap Delete account.
  3. Confirm. The app deletes your data on our servers, then your account.

What gets deleted

  • All your documents and their versions
  • Every stored rewrite result (normally kept for 30 days)
  • Any uploaded files
  • Your profile, onboarding answers, usage counters and subscription status
  • Your rate-limit record and any misuse flag
  • Your HumanGPT account and its link to your Apple or Google sign-in

What stays

Daily totals across all users (they contain no user ID), server logs (deleted after 30 days), analytics events and crash reports (deleted when their retention period ends) and purchase records kept by Apple and Qonversion. The privacy policy has the details.

If you keep using the app afterwards, it starts over with a new, empty account.

If you've already removed the app

If you signed in with Apple or Google, reinstall the app, sign in the same way and delete the account in Settings. If you never signed in, email us with anything that helps us find the account, such as your subscription receipt, and we'll delete it.

Common questions

Which tone should I pick?

Natural suits most writing. Use Academic for essays and reports, Professional for work documents and email, Casual for messages and social posts, and Friendly when you want a warm, personal note.

What do the strengths do?

Light makes small edits and fixes only clear patterns. Balanced runs the full edit. Strong restructures more freely and varies the rhythm a lot, so check the result more carefully.

Why does the text type matter?

It tells the rewrite what the text is for, so an email still reads like an email and an essay keeps its structure and citations.

Does it work offline?

Documents you've already opened and the quick pattern highlights work without a connection. Humanizing, full AI-likeness checks, link imports and syncing need the internet.

Can you promise my text won't be flagged?

No, and no honest tool can. The app makes writing sound natural and the estimate shows how it reads. Follow the rules of your school or workplace.

Is my essay stored on your servers?

Yes, as a document in your account, until you delete it. We also keep a copy of each rewrite result for 30 days so retries don't charge you twice and so we can prevent abuse. See the privacy policy.
